The Real Story Of Love & Betrayal Ft. Spencer Herron
The Real Story Of Love & Betrayal – Where Is Spencer Herron Now?
Spencer Herron is the subject of Betrayal: The Perfect Husband, a Hulu original true-crime series that details his horrific crimes and double life. The documentary series, set to premiere in 2023, follows TV producer and podcast host Jenifer Faison as she recalls her life and experiences with her husband, Spencer Herron, who was imprisoned in 2018 for several horrible acts. Betrayal, like most true-crime shows, exploits truth to shock the audience and crafts a story of marital bliss gone wrong from the perspective of someone who lived it.
While critics were wary about the series and gave it low grades (via Rotten Tomatoes), the perplexing story kept viewers interested to see what happened next, and The Perfect Husband was classic true crime fodder. Faison proved to be an excellent subject for the series, and her experience hosting a true-crime podcast translated well into the documentary. The story’s alarmingly plausible nature has kept listeners and viewers captivated for years, and it once again demonstrates that the real world is frequently scarier than anything a writer could ever imagine.
Spencer Herron Was A School Teacher
As the documentary series explained, Spencer Herron of Betrayal: The Perfect Husband appeared to be the epitome of what a husband should be. He worked for 15 years as a video production teacher at Carlton J. Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia, where he was well-liked by the students.
Herron was also selected Teacher of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year (according to the Daily Mail), just a year before his arrest, which would shatter his immaculate image as a spouse, teacher, and company owner. The Cobb County School District stated that they “worked closely with police on this reprehensible crime and are glad justice has been served.” (via MDJ Online).
Spencer Herron Assaulter Several Students
Herron, a teacher at Kell High School, exploited his position to groom and eventually assault many pupils. According to Betrayal, Herron not only taught classes at the institution, but he also acted as the faculty advisor for various “clubs,” giving him unrestricted access to possible targets. This included his ability to send students private text messages requesting that they meet with him, which ended in abusive situations.
The behavior continued for some time before he was finally exposed, with other victims coming forward to expose their former teacher. The Hulu true crime documentary revealed one of Herron’s victims, identified as “Rachel,” who would later accompany Herron’s wife, Jenifer Faison, on her journey to uncover all of the horrible truths about her alleged “perfect husband.”
Spencer Herron Wife – Jennifer Faison
Jenifer Faison’s intimate understanding of the case as a result of her marriage to Herron was one of the documentary series’ most captivating elements. According to Betrayal, Herron initially met Faison while attending Berry College in Georgia. The couple finally split up as Faison’s senior year neared, and Herron went on to marry someone else and have two children. Faison’s television career took off, and the two reconnected many years later.
Herron had divorced his first wife in the intervening years, and Faison located her former flame online, prompting them to reunite after nearly 20 years apart. Faison moved to Herron’s home state of Georgia, and the couple married soon after in what was virtually a storybook romance about long-lost love. Faison and Herron opened a wine bar together while she continued her TV career, and he taught at Kell High while periodically serving in the Air National Guard. Eventually, the reality would wreck Faison’s fairy-tale marriage to Herron.
Where Is Spencer Herron Now?
Betrayal: The Perfect Husband brought Spencer Herron’s misdeeds to light, but the series provided relatively few updates on the convicted felon’s case. Herron pleaded guilty to his charges in 2019, and was sentenced first for five counts of sexual assault of a pupil, receiving a 20-year sentence, with the first five serving in confinement. He was sentenced to an additional six years, the first five of which would be served in custody.
However, according to the documentary series, Herron was freed from prison in 2022. According to the show, Herron was living with family at the time the episodes were released, and he has remained in that obscurity ever since. About her ex-husband’s parole, Faison told People, “Honestly, now that the docuseries has come out, I’m sure he will want to stay away from me.”
