The Boys Season 5 Has Been Renewed

With the trailer dropping in December 2023, the highly anticipated TV show will return for season 4 as the Emmy-nominated hit drama series The Boys is coming to Amazon Prime Video in 2024. 

Despite the official release date not being confirmed yet, it is reported that The Boys have been granted the renewal license, and the flagship TV series could start filming as soon as April. A dark superhero comedy satire series known for its gruesome violence, bloodshed, and dark humor tends to take things one step further in every episode. 

The Boys Season 5 is Underway

According to a few news outlets, the production for The Boys Season 5 is seemingly underway, and news is likely to be confirmed after the culmination of the season, which is yet to be released somewhere around 2024. According to the report from Hollywood From Buzz, The Boys Season 5 will begin airing later this spring. The filming will start on April 8th in Toronto and continue until August 22, 2024. 

In 2020, the director and creator of the TV series, Eric Kripke, revealed that the show could eventually run for five seasons. However, since the release of another spin-off series ‘Gen V’ and its season renewal confirmation, Eric has backtracked from its statement, citing an example of another monster-hunting TV show, Supernatural. The drama runs for 15 seasons, and Eric wants to avoid the issues of plodding a storyline that feels like an exhaustive, overextended movie. 

Eric Kripke, an executive producer on Gen V, reflected on his experiences with ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Gen V’ early success in an interview with Inverse. When asked about his five-year plan for The Boys, Kripke said, “I have since realized that literally, no one in history is worse at predicting the number of seasons of a show, like literally. I have learned my lesson and stopped predicting how many seasons these shows go through. You will find out in hindsight.” 

Between The Boys and Gen V, Amazon Prime Video is creating its own mini-universe of superheroes set in a “what-if” world that reveres superheroes as celebrities and gods who are not likely to face the music of their evil and damning actions. The versions of “what-if” superheroes created by Amazon Primer rival Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe. 

Hearing about The Boys Season 5 renewal isn’t one of the biggest shockers in the world, as the Amazon flagship series can carry on as long as Eric and The Gang want to go on.

In his interview with Variety, Eric Kripke covered a tonne of topics and shed some light regarding the recent development of season 4, mainly focusing on the ‘The Boys’ cast: Butcher (Urban), Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), Soldier Boy (Ackles), and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell).

Ryan To Go As Brightburn 

As it turns out, Ryan is the most important piece of the jigsaw puzzle and crucial to the storyline. He’s been lauded by the audience and labeled as half Becca and half Homelander. It’s probably up to Butcher to figure out the mess and bring the kid back to his groove. Ryan is likely to be the best weapon against the indestructible Homelander. 

Butcher Driven by His Vengeance 

Driven by vengeance, Butcher has so much to do that he hasn’t done it. The upcoming seasons are more likely to explore whether Butcher is self-aware of his surroundings and can do what he wants to achieve. Is he capable enough to understand that Homeland is truly indestructible? 

Honorable exit for Maeve? 

After the conclusion of season 3, serious conversations have stirred up about whether The Boys will end without Maeve reappearing. After leaving the show gracefully, the absence of Maeve will surely drive the character development of Annie. According to the director, the characters around her must leave for Annie to evolve and explore her powers. 

The Likely Return of Black Noir and Soldier Boy

With the two strongest characters on the show and one of them likely to go head-to-head with Homelander, it remains to be seen whether Black Noir will somehow be reincarnated again or whether the series will end without the Soldier Boy.

The Boys Season 4 premieres in 2024. The season 4 newcomers include Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in The Boys cast.
