Night Has Fallen is slated to be Olympus Has Fallen 4, however, updates on the forthcoming Gerard Butler Has Fallen film have not indicated a specific timeline for the sequel. The franchise began with Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen in 2013, with sequels published every three years since. Gerard Butler, a Scottish actor, reprises his starring role in both London Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen, and future sequels have also been confirmed.

Gerard Butler did provide an update while promoting his film Plane in May 2023 (via comicbook.com), but it was not concrete: “We have a script for that, but I haven’t been working on it at the moment.” We have a great cool idea that only needs to be developed.”

As of January 2021, the only confirmed cast of Night Has Fallen from the previous three Has Fallen films is Gerard Butler as Mike Banning. However, Robert Kamen and Ric Roman Waugh have been confirmed to return as writers, and Waugh will also helm the film. Morgan Freeman will most likely return as Allan Trumbull, the President of the United States survives an assassination attempt in the third film and later promotes Banning.

Star Gerard Butler’s 2021 lawsuit against production companies Nu Image and Millenium Media was undoubtedly a roadblock to Night Has Fallen’s release. The actor claimed that proceeds from 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen was withheld, therefore he sued the aforementioned corporations for his share. Fortunately, Gerard Butler settled his Olympus Has Fallen case in October 2023, averting a trial that had been scheduled for 2024. With that out of the way and the Hollywood strikes resolved, Night Has Fallen can finally get started.
