The Violent Night 2 Gets A Long Awaited Update

Both Kelly McCormick and David Leitch have disclosed their intentions to make sequels to Nobody and Violent Night. Subject to schedule, they plan to start production by the end of this year or the beginning of the following. Preproduction is well underway, and Universal, one of the studios involved, is enthusiastic about the direction the development takes and the potential both film brands hold. The original film’s stars, David Harbour and Bob Odenkirk, expressed their desire to make a comeback, and McCormick said that multiple drafts of the scripts are now being prepared. But there’s still work to be done.

Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at SXSW 2024, where the two were revealing their new film, The Fall Guy, Weintraub asked about the progress being made on the two incredibly violent but fun action films. The films feature two unlikely action heroes in chaotically bloody, gory, and hilariously absurd films, which are awfully violent but highly entertaining. According to McCormick, preparations are underway for both movies at the current time, with shooting scheduled to start before the end of the year.

What Is Violent Night 2 About?

In a distinctive fusion of seasonal enthusiasm and action-packed scenes, David Harbour plays an alcoholic, depressed, and underappreciated Santa Claus in Violent Night, where he battles Russian Mafia mercenaries who have kidnapped a family. The movie also stars Beverly D’Angelo and John Leguizamo.

Violent Night, which was released in December 2022, is set on Christmas Eve at the estate of a wealthy family. It’s up to Harbour’s disillusioned Santa to dole lumps of coal in a bone-crunching style and save Christmas and the family when mercenaries take the wealthy family prisoner in their mansion. With a $20 million budget, the action film, which also stars John Leguizamo and Beverly D’Angelo, made $76.6 million worldwide at the box office after earning mainly favorable reviews from reviewers.

Violent Night 2 New Director Gives A Promising Update On The Release Date

The announcement of a Violent Night 2 sequel came in January 2023. It has been revealed that Tommy Wirkola would oversee the follow-up. “There are things we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, and the elves,” said Wirkola, hinting that he would like to incorporate more Santa mythology in the sequel, though narrative details are still being kept under wraps. However, in terms of plot, I believe we have a really, very great idea that builds upon the world and scale while maintaining the beloved tone of the first one.” Given that the 2022 film recasts Santa as a vicious Viking warrior who finds atonement by becoming the personification of generosity and charity, it will be intriguing to watch how the sequel reinvents Mrs. Claus.

Violent Night 2 Release Date

The earliest possible release date for Violent Night 2 is late 2025. Discussions regarding a potential follow-up have been ongoing since November 2022, before to the first movie’s theatrical premiere. The original director of the film, Tommy Wirkola, disclosed that a sequel was being worked on in a January 2024 interview with The Wrap.

Cast Of Violent Night 2

In addition to Harbour, the first movie’s cast members are Edi Patterson as Alva, John Leguizamo as Scrooge, Alex Hassell as Jason, and Alexis Louder as Linda. It is quite likely that Harbour will play Santa again in the follow-up, but it is unknown if the other actors from the first movie will be making cameos.
