As anime has grown in popularity around the world, there has been a greater need for more diverse characters, resulting in some of the most iconic black characters in anime. Black characters have grown in popularity both in Japan and around the world, particularly in recent decades as anime fandom has grown. Some mangaka, like Eichiro Oda, were far ahead of their time in introducing Black characters into their work, paving the door for subsequent creators to follow suit.

Black characters can be found in even the most popular anime franchises, as opposed to simply a few minor examples in lesser-known works. Pioneers such as Tite Kubo and Masashi Kishimoto have created some of the most famous black characters in anime and manga.

This established a precedent for a new generation of manga and anime authors, who drew inspiration from these icons and created characters with depth and complexity. The most well-known black anime characters are shining examples of anime’s growing diversity.

Hibana of Fire Force is both beautiful and powerful. Hibana, another Atsushi Ohkubo creation, is a fan favorite and one of the series’ more complicated characters. She is quite harsh and dictatorial with her colleagues, yet she has a tragic past that has contributed to her pessimistic ideas. To live and wreak revenge on those who murdered her friends, she became merciless and devoted herself entirely to her investigation. Hibana is a clever scientist who uses chemicals to power up. Despite her flaws, she was a valuable ally to Shinra and Company 8, assisting them whenever they were in need.

This verified Darui’s reputation as a great tactician who could predict impending threats before anybody else. Despite her brief appearance in Hunter X Hunter, Canary is an extremely common Black character. As an apprentice butler for the famed assassin family, the Zoldycks, she is responsible for protecting the house from intruders. The Zoldycks have great faith in her abilities because she has an essential responsibility. Canary is a compassionate character, but she hides it so that she may be as terrifying as possible. She is more loyal to Killua than she is to the Zoldyck family. She let Gon and his buddies pass by and visit Killua because she was glad to see Killua finally have a buddy who cares about him the same way she does.

Despite being noisy, jealous, and haughty, Michiko is extremely loyal to the people she loves, particularly Hatchin, who becomes her daughter in all but name.
