Born and raised in Maplewood, New Jersey, her father, John Peter Musky, was a musician, and her mother, Olga Peter Musky, worked as a real estate broker. Jane Musky is the only child of her parents and attended Columbia High School before embarking on to pursue her career as Production Designer in Hollywood.

Jane Musky’s Journey to Step Into Hollywood

Jane began her professional career by working at the New York Theatre and then moving to London to work as a production designer at Harker’s Studio. While trying to work all the way to the top and make a name for herself in Hollywood, she was engaged as a scenic artist for Richard Nelson’s play Vienna Notes and for William Shakespeare’s play The Winter’s Tale. Out of curiosity and an intriguing desire to focus on television, she directed the CBS Children’s Mystery Theatre TV series in the 1980s.

Her big breakthrough came in 1984, when she got a chance to work with the legendary Oscar-winning filmmakers, the Coen Brothers. She was brought in as a production artist and designer for the neo-noir crime film Blood Simple. Over the last 30 years of her illustrious career, she has worked on and contributed to more than 40 motion pictures and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the movie making industry, including Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Al Pacino, and Brad Pitt. Apart from that, Musky has delivered movie set designs for some of the most notable directors, including James Foley, Gus Van Sant, and Rob Reiner, to name a few. 

As a production designer and art director, her job was to make sure that the urban landscapes and enchanting and visually appealing backdrops resonated with the movie script and effectively portrayed the immersive experience for the audience. Her craftsmanship and extraordinary talent earned her accolades from around the world for her movie, Ghost.

During the 2000s, Musky also worked for popular movies such as Mona Lisa Smile, Music and Lyrics, Notorious, and most notably earned admiration for the sets of Hitch. She was nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Art Direction” and a “Best Set Decoration Award.”
