A not-so-popular but a generation of classic TV lovers would probably be familiar with the name of Kathy Kersh. Born and raised in California, the actress began her acting career in the 1960s and went on to become a hugely successful icon. Her notable performances as Marian Billington on The Beverly Hillbillies and Cornelia with the iconic crime-fighting duo in Batman: TV Series earned her a significant position in the archives of television.

Before stepping into the entertainment industry, she had experience working in the modeling industry. Kersh had an illustrious career for nearly a decade, but after that, it slowed down a bit.

Winning the Miss Rheingold Content Award in 1962

Rheingold Beer held an annual beauty pageant from 1941 to 1964 in which voters were given the opportunity to elect one woman who would go on to be crowned as ‘Miss Rheingold.’ The winner will be used on beer advertisements in its marketing efforts all over the United States. Kathey Kersh won the competition in 1962, and it became so mainstream and popular that it made appearances on radio and aired on TV channels.

Finding a new romance on the sets of Gotham

Kathy Kersh is married twice. Her first marriage with Vince Ewards didn’t last for a year, and she eventually got divorced. Although the couple was only married for a few months, they had a daughter by the name of Davera Edwards. Kersh cited mental  anguish as the main cause of divorce.

After that, in 1965, Kersh remarried another Hollywood actor, Burt Ward, aka The Robin, Batman’s sidekick, who goes by the name of Boy Wonder. 

The two of them met and mingled on the set of Batman, but unfortunately, this marriage followed the same fate as the previous one—it didn’t last long. The couple got married in 1967 and eventually got divorced two years later.

After making several appearances in the 1960s and 1970s, she has not reprised any role since 1975. A long hiatus from the world of glamor and entertainment. The year 1975 marked the end of her acting career with the release of Gemini Affair, Kathy’s final film until then. In spite of not being a blockbuster, the film was well-received by the audience as it addressed a variety of issues related to drug abuse and the exploitation of vulnerable people.

Kathy Kersh hoped to become one of the most successful movie stars in the 1960s, but her producer, Martin Ransohoff, shifted his attention towards Sharon Tate. It is believed that Sharon and Kathy had a bitter rivalry; however, these claims have been refuted by Kathy herself, as they both were fond of each other.

Gemini Affair remains the final film to this date, and it was way ahead of its time. The film revolves around the themes of exploitation, drugs, and how quickly dreams can be crushed by the dark side of Hollywood. The film has cult appeal and is considered to be a cult classic.
